Managing profitability
Managing profitability is becoming increasingly difficult for law firms, mainly due to two factors:
Overhead costs (excluding staff & property-related costs) typically account for 20% of revenues, and need to be reduced.  Law firms simply pass on too much of their hard-earned profits to third party suppliers.
Margins are under pressure from existing and potential client organisations, who increasingly adopt professional procurement strategies in selecting external legal support.  Electronic auctions have been employed in an attempt to commoditise the provision of legal advice.  Legal expertise and excellent client relationships are no longer enough to guarantee profitable growth.
