Packaging Manufacturer
Completed a project on purchasing goods from the Far East, established an optimal specification, price benchmarked, tendered and negotiated, reducing the cost by 20% and saving the company £150k pa.
Food Distributors
Analysed the facilities cost structure of a group of independent companies, with special emphasis on overseas inwardbound freight costs, saving the group £2m over the next year.
Food Distribution
Reviewed the synergistic benefits of two merged companies, Iceland and Booker Cash & Carry, on packaging, commercial vehicles and associated costs. Saved the company £2.2m pa on a £5m pa spend.
Food Distribution & Manufacturing
Created a central buying function within Booker plc (£5.0bn t/o), 30 companies operating worldwide involving food distribution, food manufacturing, forestry and fish farming. In first year achieved savings of £2m, which increased to £4m pa by the third year. Examined the benefits of merging the buying teams of Booker Food Service and Booker Cash & Carry, and produced a structure which gained Board approval. £30m savings accrued in the first year (as per original estimate).
Fresh Food Manufacturing
Group Managing Director of Whitworths Food Group, turned around the group from a £3m loss in the first year to £1.5m profit in the second year. A strategic evaluation of the group's activities was carried out, rationalising businesses out of the group and acquiring others, having identified the need to increase the level of added value products within the group's portfolio.
Grocery Manufacturing
Purchasing Controller for Cadbury Schweppes Foods controlling all spend areas within three manufacturing plants, with a spend of £40m pa, plus £25m pa for the group globally. Developed counter-purchase arrangements for the group from Eastern Europe.
